Opinions on the attached pics are invited. It appears to be a doubled die coin but is there a die crack, or is that some type of damage around the bottom word "Dollar" on the reverse?

im not an expert with quarters yet, but I do know that these have RPMS (re-punched mint marks) I also found a 64-64-d with OBV doubling. I had my dealer confirm it. it was doubled on the OBV motto. but with the doubling on the dollar, I'm not sure I see it

The area around DOLLAR is a lamination, a weakness in the metal alloy causing it to peel away.

I agree. It does appear to be a lamination error. I do not have much experience with this type of error. Will this have an adverse effect on the coin's valuation?

If I remember right lamination's don't detract from the book grade because they are mint errors, but do detract from the eye appeal grade. So it's in the eye of the buyer whether its a +/-.

Not sure where it stands on value in the error side of the house though.

Don't pull the lamination off. You won't like the look then.

Machine Doubling on the mint mark.

I have no intention of altering the coin by tinkering with the lamination error observed. I am more concerned with whether this was a mint error, or simply poor quality care for the coin by a previous owner.

Mint error. I think it is some metal shavings that fell onto the planchet. When they are removed that area is missing part of the devices. Just plain ugly then.
