Quote: Honestly, with all the low ball key collectors, an FR01 that is identifiable maybe worth more than "book" values. If it is a 1916, and you get it slabbed, and it comes back FR01, I would seek out people trying to make Low ball sets, they often will pay more than the FR01 price.i think the FR01 price is more speculation than what it is actually selling for. I imagine there aren't a lot of FR01 specimens of coins out there.
Though with how distinct the characteristics are with this one, there may be no shortage. I honestly don't know. LOL If it comes back from ANACS as a "FR01", it will be a very rare one of a kind. It seems like PR01's are in the $800 range or so in a slab. From what I can tell, this coin is stronger than the PR01s I've seen lately, but weaker than FR02s I've seen. I'm hoping it has a bit more detail in hand.....but we'll see. Thank you all for your comments!

Quote: I was just thinking the other day - "I haven't searched the SLQ auctions lately" - and went on about my business and never even logged in over the weekend. I guess I got lucky that you or Steve didn't jump in. You 2 were the ones I was expecting might stomp me.... But yeah, it seemed that these lots have mostly been junk lately, or get bid up outrageously; so I was a bit surprised. I never expected to find another 1916, but there are probably more out there than I thought.

Congrats on the find, Johnny. I haven't been diligent in looking for one...really need to, 'cuz it's the only way I'll complete my set.

Wow, awesome potential find! It's definitely a 1916 as long as there was no altering to retooling involved, which I doubt. Congratulations on another awesome find! (Probably. )

If he's right (again) it was another great investment that he'll make a profit on via these auctions. Johnny has turned a profit on these lots previously with other key or semi-key SLQ's, as have I via the same seller. I haven't found a 1916, but it appears he's now found another of those along with a couple of 21's and a 23-s, not to mention several type 1's.

I havent found a 23-s yet in these lots....but I have found 3 1921s at melt(one of which I recently sold for $375). I know Keith found at least 1 1921 and many other goodies, right?
If I'm wrong about this lot....I'm out $150(and I will have saved Pinenut $100 or so...lol). I'm pretty confident, but not as much as I was the first time around. I will certainly get some good pictures up when it arrives(fingers crossed and teeth grinding...)

Thanks Johnny! And my wife thanks you too regardless of the outcome. I tried to explain the whole saga to her the other day and her only question was, "what was your max bid?" And it wasn't to gauge how much I was gonna get beat by... or maybe it was, just by her instead of Johnny...
On a separate note, I've noticed several full date 1924's in the recent lots these sellers have put up. One even looked VF!

Yes, I've found two 1921's and also a very nice 1920D at melt.
I've accumulated 16 type 1's in various conditions from AG to EF as well.
Still have 6 holes to fill.......need to get back in the SLQ game.

I went to work, and she was watching the auction towards the end. She was all excited when she thought I was going to get it for $164, then it went up to $300 at the last minute....not quite as exciting for here then...LOL. She has a bit of a vested interest since I will put part of the profits(if any) into the "baby" fund(she's 5 months pregnant)...
