I think it is about $100.00 too high.
Maybe two bidders think they are bidding on a 1938 D and having a private bidding war.
Otherwise, there is no reason I can figure that justifies the current bid now at sitting at $150 in AU50.
I don't see the bid history anywhere so I don't know how it has been going since it opened.

My first reaction was a nice coin for about $20. $150, well now we are talking about a waste of money. You could take the other $130 and buy a really nice coin. And for $150 you can even probably find a nice '38-D. My $.02

That coin didn't sell.

The lot after it sold for $180...An 1938 graded MS65.

1. Mistaking it for a 1938D
2. People think it's a typical ebay coin that has been UNSEARCHED
3. Seller is smarter than people think and if it sold for a lot, who'd be the richer.
4. Might just be me but it looks cleaned anyway.
5. To bad it's all over or I'd have purchased 10 of them.

Keep in mind that the value of an item is determined at the time of sale between a buyer and a seller. Some buyers have more money than others and do not care about price as long as what they are buying is top of the line. Books and price guides are just a publishers opinion. They are not gospel and most price guides are out of date even before they are printed (think RedBook).

I for one price several of my coins at higher than book value. Why? Because they are rare and hard to find. Maybe you can find it cheaper, maybe not. But I can tell you from experience I have sold several coins over the years for more than the guide price simply because of the rarity factor. In addition to that there are some coins I will pay full retail price for if I need them for one of my books. Sincerely, John Leckrone
