I am going to guess Byzantine Scyphate- cup shaped coin. Image of Christ and King inside, flowers or something on the other side. Possibly later than Byzantine, possibly tourist trade issue, It is far outside my areas of knowledge.

to the community.

This looks like a Bracteate, a very thin coin that the same image appears on both side. This type of coin was struck in the Holy Roman Empire (Germany) during the 1100 & 1200.

This looks like a bracteate to me, too.

There's a bit of info here:
http://www.moneymuseum.com/moneymus...=en&id=61191

Other countries issued bracteate coins too including Denmark, Switzerland, and bits of what is now Austria, and Hungary.
