Nice set but he doesn't specify the shipping on it. Also, to offer that type of set and not provide any pictures at all is unbelievable. I'm sure this is a probably a legitimate auction, but he could have gone to a little more effort since he's looking for someone to spend $40000 with him. I doubt very much he'll get that opening bid with the few feedback he has and no stated shipping.

I agree. You really need to go through the trouble of supplying good pictures of each coin or at least 3 coins per picture of the lower dollar coins. If he has what he says he has it would well be worth the effort and he probably would get much more than his starting price.Very nice collection.

There are pictures on that auction, they may not be great pictures but there are pictures none the less, some people just cant take a good picture. he also states in his auction that "Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges, must have insurance on shipping. If you would like better pics of any of the Morgans in this collection, have questions, or would like to see this collection before bidding please email me at ***********@aol.com, (Removed email address) or call(815)545-5803 cell,Mitch" So I am guessing he will be charging exact shipping charges with insurance, and since its not a BIN auction he has no idea what the final bid will be nor where he will have to ship it

I don't think I could sell something like that off after I put that much effort into it. Would just be really hard to do. I would need to have the money really bad. Like for an organ transplant or something.

I wouldn't make that assumption, Bryan. He has very low feedback and could have weighed it and had ebay calculate the shipping if it was actual. He could have also had the insurance required with the shipping calculation.

I only have two Morgan's (1921 passed down from my Great Uncle who loved U.S. currency, and an 1881 which I picked up in Athens, Greece of all places)and have always thought about starting a collection. If only this auction started at 0.99c no reserve!

For 40K bucks (and maybe a little more), I could buy a new replacement Jeep Grand Cherokee with all the trimmings. For $40K, I would definitely want obverse/reverse images of each and every Morgan. For $40K, I would want a signed statement that each and every Morgan is problem free as determined by a top TPG and, included within this guarantee, a codicil that there would be a refund for every Morgan bodybagged by the TPG. For $40K, I would sit down with each image of each coin and calculate its value in a raw state and total them all to determine if they're worth it. Then, I would calculate the value of the whole collection in a slabbed state to determine if I would see any gain if I were to break up the collection. Except for the 93S, I didn't see any exceptional nor outstanding date/mintmarks/grades. And, the 93S looks like it might have been cleaned. Overall, they appear to be nice coins, but they're not in a league with Mike Casper's Morgans: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcaspercoinQ2ecomI don't think they're worth $40K. I think I'll take a pass on this one. Fred

As a Post Script while my mind still lingers on this collection, I've seen too many lots of Morgan sales such as this in which there were only one or two key or high grade coins with the rest relatively common Morgans of no particular value. I suspect anyone with $40K to burn would do better to piece together their own collection one at a time. I don't think the seller is gonna get his $40K. Anyone with $40K is gonna know better than to fall for the "instant Morgan collection" notion, especially since there's really only one or two keepers. If he's trying to maximize his gain from the collection, he would be better off getting them graded first (about $2850 grading cost), then selling them one at a time. And a buyer would be better off going to a reputable dealer or major auction house for the 93-S where s/he would have some sort of guarantee of its authenticity, grade, and condition. Superior is auctioning off at least one slabbed 93-S and there's several 93-S's on ebay right now (including at least two counterfeit, duly reported). Yes, even if I had $40K, I wouldn't consider buying this collection. It's just not worth it. Fred

Bryan, the only thing with that set is that the seller never really tells you exactly which morgans are in the set.

I emailed the seller of the first "Instant Morgan Collection" thing and here is his responce, I took out his home phone number but that is all that is edited Hi, The shipping cost with insurance shipped with Fed Ex to zip code 28016 For this Morgan dollar collection would be Fed Ex First Overnight $298.03, Fed Ex Priority Overnight $269.03, Fed Ex Standard overnight $261.55, Fed Ex 2 day $224.37, Fed Ex Express saver $222.40. FedEx shipping company carries Insurance high enough to protect the package, United States Postal Service only has a limit of $5000.00 on package insurance.Very Nice Morgan dollar Collection. If you need more pictures or have questions let me know. Mitch Minor officeHe also said I could come look at the coins first hand if wanted before I bid, and if I wanted pictures of a specific coin to let him know and he would take the pictrure of each coin I needed
