I have been shopping on E-Bay for a 1878 8TF for some time now. So far I have been outbid on everyone. Here is the latest one, I bid $165.00 this morning before I went to work.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...BUAA:US:1123As you can see I didn't lose this by much. Sunday I bid $155.00 on one and it sold for $204.00. I know that VAM's plays a role in what price a Morgan can bring but the one this morning is a very common VAM. Do you think I am being to cheap with my bids or is this where the "patience" factor comes in to play? Opinions welcome.

That coin in the link above looked really nice for a 63 but it went for about all it should get for that VAM. You should be able to snag one in that price range with patience. nlp

My wife tells me that I am not the most patient person in the world so maybe this hobby will help me with that. Need to set on the floor with my legs folded, arms in the air going.... "Hmmmmmmmmmmm"

I've been keeping my eye on these lately, too. The PCGS and NGC coins are getting much more than greysheet and even exceed the inflated PCGS price guide. I'll keep my eyes open for a candidate for you.

It seems to me that ebay bidding goes in spurts for various reasons For instance, along about the fourth of July Weekend, I would rather be selling there, than buying. Lots of guys with time off work and feeling patriotic and flush with holiday energy... More people bidding = higher bids with all else equal. That particul;ar coin was definitely nice and seemed a fair price. Most coins I buy or bid on ebay I just make my best estimate oif value and make that my high bid, then stayt away. But every now and then I see one that tickles my eye and I stay with it and sometimes bid as much as 30% over what I thnk is the cash value if I really want is for my collection. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that, not the only one who occasionally has buyer's remorse, LOL BTW, do NOT drink and visit ebay

Thanks SeatedNut I got my eye on a few more that are coming up on E-Bay. I have also been looking at the ads in Coin World. There is an ad from L&C Coin and they have a 1878 8tf MS-63 VAM 10 for $250.00, but for that amount I would at least like to see a picture. Thanks to all for there opinions. Back to the search.
