We are moving, and I had put my more valuable coins I had out in bubble mailers instead of my album as a stopgap measure to put them away before the movers got here. Unfortunately when I took them out and began taking the coins out, I left one in because it was 'too valuable'. I should have put it in the album. That same day, I had to mail some stuff out from ebay sales. I carelessly had left this coin in and probably shipped it with one of the lots. Thankfully, I had only paid about $150 for it, but the coin was worth way way more than that ($500-$1000, I had gotten very lucky off poor pics).

All I can do now is hope it goes to someone with some sense of ethics, specifically someone from here (I believe one or two people from here won the lots).

/facepalm

Fortunately, I've been the 'windshield' more than the 'bug', but in this instance I am DEFINITELY the bug...

The only way thats getting returned is

1) the person doesn't know how much its worth
2) the person is kind, which doesn't seem likely on ebay.

If it were here, I wouldnt be too worried...

I hope that the person who gets that coin is honest and returns it to you. At this point all you can do is hope for the best. We've all been there man.

have you contacted the two buyers? it would seem that anyone receiving more than they paid for would at least give you a shout.

at least that would be my response.

"hey, I ordered two 1982 zincolns from you and received two 1982 zincolns and a 1877 Trade dollar, Thanks for the bonus".

Sorry to hear shadow. Can you post the exact coin that was misplaced? It might be more convicting to the person that you shipped it to if he sees this thread. If you have a general idea of who you shipped the coin too, you could send out emails to the buyers who potentially received the expensive "gift". Of course, if the guy is dishonest, he won't admit that he has it. However, if someone is teetering on the edge of "honesty", they'd be more likely to send it back. I'd email all 12 of the buyers over a coin with that much value.

Ouch!

I'll keep thinking positive thoughts about the general goodness of Mankind.

Good luck, my friend! I REALLY hope you get it back!

(It reminds me of tucking a $5,000 Cashier's Check into the top lip of a box I was moving (to remind me to deposit it). Then forgetting it, loading it into a trailer and watching it blow away in my rearview mirror at 35 mph. (I did find it against a fence after 20 minutes of scrambling!! Whew! Talk about panic!)

I'd certainly email all of the buyers and tell them of the potential mistake and hope for an honest soul. Best wishes with this one.........
