Even though he touched it, at least you are getting it back. I've had similar experiences (not with as valuable of coins), that went far worse.

Hey a touched coin is better than no coin at all! It's great you got it back!

It's a fairly recent touch - maybe an acetone dip?

I was thinking the same thing. I'll have to be extremely careful, though. I don't want to ding it up at all. He said he did touch the surface : (

No offense intended ... but IMHO this has been a very self-centered series of replies from ShadowCreator ......
I read worries and angst about whether the honest person touched the mistakenly shipped coin ...... and very little grace and gratitude that it was honestly recognized and sent on it's way back.
I humbly submit that the OP is focused at this point on the wrong things .....
Be grateful ShadowCreator that it's coming back at all ...... and enough of the angst about condition.
You are a lucky person IMHO that it (whatever it was) ended up in the hands of an honest person ..... sooooooo ...
Celebrate that aspect and enough of the woe is me ..... you did ship it out after all.
My 2 cents worth.

To be honest, the reason I am so concerned is because it was one of my favorite coins, and likely ultra high grade (where minor mishandling can HUGELY affect value). It was not just a frivolous thing where I 'didnt want someone touching my coins', it was that I was scared that a very high grade coin would have a significant amount of value lopped off if he mishandled it. I mean, if you accidentally misplaced your $800 coin and there was a chance that someone made it a $300 coin, would you not be concerned about that? I am grateful it is coming back, but I would be sorely disappointed to have it back with a huge fingerprint or something. The coin is basically irreplaceable to me. I did indeed thank the person, I just did not want any unpleasant surprises. So that is why I was so worried about it being touched. Because although it wouldn't matter too much for a VF, AU, or even MS-62 coin, this coin is quite possibly MS-66 (easily MS-65) and I DID want to check if the value was still intact.
So this is why I am so 'over-concerned' about someone touching it. Normally I would not be and would probably not give it this amount of worry. You might want to look at the values for this coin in MS-65 RB and MS-66 BN, or even MS-65 BN. I want my coin back, but I want it back in the same condition when condition matters so much at these levels of preservation. I also wanted to make sure the guy did not handle it any more if he did not know he was not supposed to.

From buying this on a whim off bad pictures to this, this coin sure does have a lot of character for one that looks like it was basically minted yesterday...

And I honestly do not blame him for touching it, many people do not know not to handle a high grade coin by its surfaces, but I hope you can see my reasoning here.

I glad your coin is being returned, but as a high grade coin it should be in a third party graded slab. It does three things. (1) protects your coin (2) authenticates whether the coin is genuine or not (3) makes it easy to store.
The coin is being returned. Be grateful, thankful and gracious to the person that returned it for it just as easily could have gone the other way.

I agree. I was planning to send it off with a bunch of other coins within a few months. I had only gotten it pretty recently. Having it back will certainly be a huge relief.
