Just received today. I bought this in an old PCI holder as a filler for my gold album. Anyone want to guess on the grade?

So many of these are not fully struck up that I could see this one going as high as EF, but I would put it around VF30.

These tiny coins have alot of charm.

Vf30. It's sad that it was cleaned. Still a great coin!

I also have one of these. Mine would probably grade a strong EF. I picked it up for thirty shillings (one pound ten shillings)in 1970, at a Manchester coin show in England.

Why is it that the rim denticles are so poorly struck? I haven't seen an example yet that is strong in this area.

I have a book: 'Historic Gold Coins of the World' by Burton Hobson, and there is a superb picture in the book of a gold dollar. Even this example has poorly defined rim denticles.

Thanks for the comments! PCI gave it VF-35 (surface damage). One of the nicer things about a coin this size is that the scratches you see in the picture are all but invisible in hand.

My first opinion would have been VF-30. These coins were so small that they didn't strike up all that well. Imagine the effort involved in creating dies for these little beauties. Apart from that, I can't imagine carrying something like this around in pocket change. Which is why most used coin purses. Great coin, lots of history.
