Hello - anybody know of a solid Colonial brick 'n' mortar in Central Illinois? I have a gent that wants to have his Elephant "GOD PRESERVE NEW ENGLAND" authenticated and doesn't want to wait around on a TPG. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm not from Illinois, this gent I'm trying to help is. Thank you!

I know, I know... but I agreed to help and I'm doing my level best. I'm actually quite certain the coin isn't authentic, but I don't want him to take my word for it...

lol I know Moe. I'm looking for a reputable dealer in Illinois. I'd be happy to post the coin, but I'm afraid the word of a bunch of people he doesn't know over the Internet won't do. This is a (well, in his mind) potentially $100,000 coin. He needs to interact with a human himself and have the human say the same things I said over the Internet...
I'm way too nice sometimes. Anyway, I promised to help and I'm keeping my word! But I don't know any coin dealers in Illinois (obviously), so I thought I'd ask. I guess nobody knows here either. The saga doth continue! Thank you for your good wishes and intentions, Moe! =)

I'm originally from Galesburg, IL and know a good shop Peoria, IL. Hadley's Coins : 2606 N Sheridan Rd, Peoria, IL 61604 : (309) 688-3175
Is that close enough or do they want Springfield, IL?

Real or not, I would still like to see a picture of it.

I can't help you with the coin, but I will say this. If this guy is anything like my dad 10,000 experts could tell this guy it is not real, but let one shade tree dealer say it is real and that would be all he needs to hear. I would steer this guy in the right direction and let him go from there. Rid yourself of this as soon as possible.

From the pictures I'd say it's not real. Of course I'm just a guy on the internet that he doesn't know.

It's obviously not real and I told the guy that. I'm a total novice and I can see this thing screams fake. As I said, I want him to hear it from an real expert.
Anyway, sent him the info that bherring provided, thanks again much!

Sounds like the average person. Not sure how many, possibly thousands, watch this forum, but surely one of them might know just a little bit about coins.

yes, Carl... this place is a great resource. Especially if you're in that extraordinarily dangerous place of "knowing a little".
However, to a person that doesn't know how valuable this place is as a resource, it's just a bunch of geeks gabbing on the Intarwebzz. And I'm quite proud to add my name to this geekdom, and hopefully contribute a little bit as I gain more experience. But I've only learned the value over a great deal of time and reading. It's not something you necessarily figure out right away. =)
