Got this out of a lot I bought on ebay. I knew the lot contained a blank cent planchet, but I didn't realize it was a Type I planchet (no upset rim) until I got it in the mail.

I didn't buy the lot for this planchet. The lot contained an off center 1964-D that I really wanted! This planchet was just a bonus. I weighed it and it is definitely copper.

If I'm not mistaken, the Type I planchets are a little harder to come by than the Type II planchets. Is this correct?

Actually, I have one of the wartime zinc coated steel cent planchets. Mine has the rolled edge. I have no idea of it's value. I got it from a dealer's junk box.

I've always known that no raised rim had a little extra value to it. I believe the steelie is double the price that of a copper blank.

Nice little catch there. Blanks are scarcer than planchets.
Never heard of diff. types on these. Where did you see this at ?
I.E.: Type 1 and 2
Unless something changed, I always thought a blank is a blank
and a planchet is a planchet. This copper you have is a blank.
It has not been upset yet. If it had, it would be a planchet.

Sounds like another one of those confounded misuses of terminology that makes coppercoins so angry(and I am one that agrees terminology should be consistent). I never liked this type 1, type 2 terminology anyway because it doesn't describe the differences. A blank, defined as punched from the roll but nothing more done to it and a planchet, punched from the roll and the edge upset eliminates all confusion if we stick by those terms and definitions. Unfortunately, too many "coin experts" muddy the waters by using their own systems or misusing proper terminology. As they say,"if it's in print,it's a fact"!Thanks for listening to my tirade,I'll take my soapbox and go home now!
