This is a 1800IJ NGC AU55 lima 8R,I found this date is relatively scarer than other date, the NGC cerfitication record only has 5 of this date inculding this one.
I find in Heriatage action there was a 1800IJ lima 8r uncertificated at a EF-AU condition sold for $300,so I thought this date is a scarer date even if not keydate of Lima CarlousIIII 8r.
I purchase this one from one of my amigos in Lima peru.He is a Chinese too.
From the picture you can see there is planchet flaws, and correct scartches on obverse. It has be toned but still has some original luster.
Give me your comments on it.

Nico,
All the Carlos III Lima portraits are pretty common. The only rarity in that series is the one with the denomination listed as R8, I can't remember which year it is off the top of my head. Whenever I see one of these coins I check for the R8 and then pass on the coin unless it is high grade AU or better.
I see you put a lot of faith in the census figures from NGC for determining "rarity". I would question that faith, I know lots of collectors of Spanish Colonial coins but you are the first one I have encountered who actually sends in coins to be slabbed. There are a lot of nice Spanish Colonial coins out there raw, the TPG craze that permeates US coin collecting has never really caught on with the Spanish Colonial crowd, at least that is my humble opinion. That may all soon change as the problem with counterfeits continues to grow, we may be forced to submit for authentication at some point if we ever want to sell or insure our collections.

I agree with jfransch the coin is a very common one. Calbetto places the coin in the most common category.

I also agree that many people who collect 8Rs are NOT willing to have them encapsulated. Personally I own very few in holders - most are actually encapsulated counterfeits.

My annual study of ebay bears this fact out. From July 2009 to July 2010 I recorded every ebay auction involving 8Rs. One of my parameters I recorded was the number of encapsulated coins versus raw coins. Unfortunately I did it only for Cap and Ray types but the results bear out the contention that for now encapsulation is NOT popular with collectors of 8Rs. LESS THAN 2% of the C&R 8Rs were encapsulated. The numbers were 168 encapsulated out of 8,773 total 8Rs (0.01914).

Let me express the reason why I like certificated 8R.The 6 main spanish colony mints which produced 8R pillars, only the Mexico mintmark is common in China market, the NG\So\NR\P have never been found in circulation in China, although you can find Mo/Lima/potosi portrait in China, they are inevitably found in low conditions and with chopmarks.Unlike in the US,you can find pretty high quality pillars easily, cause the 8r coin is legal tender until the mid 1850s.
And as you all know,China coin market full of forgers, especially those famous circulate coin with long histroy including pillar&portrait 8R.
So when it is fake it can't be certificate, when it was cleaned or damaged or plugged it can't be certificate. As there were not enough resource in China coin market,I looking for high quality 8R though internet all over the world,I only obtain AU condition above, and sent them to NGC.With slabbed coin I can research and reserve them well.
Last,I'd like to point out that I think you're old guys, forgive me to say so,and you gain more confidence than I did in collecting 8R,I only collect them for around 2 years. So both of you are my menters of this field, you definetely do not need add money for telling you what your coins are.But one thing I must tell you that the coin slabbed with high quality Absolutely sold with higher price than those not slabbed. And if you want to sell your coin in a reasonable price, the scores of the slabbed coin can provide a criterion a frame of reference
