Hi

Would someone have pics. or a link with pics.
to show the reverse dots on this coin ?
I found one in a bank roll today and it shows Unc. details
but has a few bag/handling marks etc. Wanted to find out which type it is.
Thanks

Never thought I would even try but counted the beads on the reverse.
I got 120 (i think:)
Does that help with the id'ing ?

Scroll down the page for the large and small bust and large/small beads clear images comparisons ;) I call these RCMP quarters "Quarter Horses" :D

One last question, so basically the beads on the obv. should look like the reverse beads on the 73 (as far as distance from the rim)
for the large bust type obv. correct ?

If you live in the States and rarely get Canadian quarters, if I was you I'd hang onto it, just because :) I don't know the values of either version but do know the Large Bust is the one collectors go for. I'm fairly uneducated about coins and values but hoping to learn a lot. I'm basically poor and surviving on small disability so can't hold onto much coin currently, so am focussing mostly on pennies and small pocket change for myself, while learning. If I ever find a bingo coin then I'll branch out to the costlier and older coins. Just because its fun!

Hi
Welcome aboard. Actually I come across quite a few quarters, dimes
and cents here in the northeast. Sorry to hear about your disability.
Wish I had kept a bag of one cents (mixed 30's,40's and 50's)
Only about a roll but they were all EF/AU coins. I would of sent them to you instead as I sold them pretty cheap at my flea market table a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the welcome :) I have been a member for a while but lost track of the forum and wasn't doing much regards coins. I had some nice ones when I joined here, but they mostly got spent when paydays didn't come soon enough LOL I'm back and will hold onto my collected small change now though.

I'm sorry about the RA (serious rheumatoid arthritis) too, but such is life. I like a challenge I guess, to start handling coins with sore clumsy twisted hands and looking through eyeglasses, magnifiers through eyes in early stage cataracts at this stage. I see DD's all the time without my glasses and magnifying glass. They disappear when I use th glasses of curse :D Better late than never though. Also sorry I missed out on your coins. That was a nice thought :)

I'm currently in SE BC but plan a move to the Coast when I can swing it. Lots more coins going around in the city too so it could be fun!

By the way, I have a library copy of last years Charlton Coin Guide and looked up those quarter horses for you. It says face value for the small bust and $65.oo for large, but really, it seems people will pay what its worth to them to have one in their collection so you can haggle maybe? Maybe even do a trade?

While trying to research info about the infamous large/small bust on these quarters, the search led me to this forum.

I have looked at the link Dottir ahs provided, and I cannot discrimante the any differences.

The harder I look, especially at the beads, it seems as though the large bust has smaller beads. Is that correct?

4228,if you look at the photos in the link provided by Dottir, note that the beads on the large bust are close to the rim while the beads of the small bust are much further away. This is the key for identification.

For me, the fastest way is to check the queen's hair. The common small-bust variety has much more detailing in the hair.

You have posted the exact same thing in at least five different threads. That is unacceptable. Post it once, and then link to the original post in other threads. Secondly, there is no need to resurrect a 2010 thread topic
