I would need to crack that one out and test it with the XRF...

I would need that to be triple graded before an XRF.

There is something about the date on the reverse that doesn't seem just right.

I don't believe this for a second. The denticles are way too sharp and defined to be brass like I've seen before. I think that the "unfortunate cleaning" that the seller refers to magically changed the bronze to brass. Any one of 100 household cleaners will turn bronze a yellowy brass color. A person would have to be brain dead to buy this without at least an XRF.

I just love the reverse pic offered here...Nice way to advertize a $22,500 coin,.. and the obverse pic isn't much better.. Hope that he takes a photo course with his possible winnings... "shake ...rock and roll"

not to mention, you think you would take better pictures if you are asking for 22500!

Knowing that the only really way to prove this is Brass is from an XRF, shouldn't the TPG offer this test result when they grade a coin like this? if this was my coin and I had it graded that would be the first thing I would be wanting from them.

As mentioned above, the cert by this TPG on an extremely scarce coin immediately sends up red flags. Now, PCGS would have been another story, but not a cert with this outfit.

I have learned that this coin does not belong to the seller (vforce) - it is a consignment. This ebay seller has some Canadian numismatic rarities in his collection, including a gem pattern 5-cent (DC-29) - that is why this listing from him was so puzzling. That said, I will undoubtedly tease Howard over several beers in Montreal, about his stellar photography skills!!
