Everything seems to fit within the planchet,,,did you put it on the scales?thats about the only way I can tell,,but after years of looking at this stuff I still dont know @%#t,,,looks nice to me anyway,

It almost looks like a rolled edge. But I have seen penny plancet's on Nickles if it's weight is under 3.2 grams that is most likely what it is.

I am new at this and have been looking at scales. Was hoping to find something local to purchase. So, no I have no weighed it yet. I have hundreds of coins to go thru, foreign and domestic. Any opinions on a scale I should purchase?

any cheep one will do. But get one that will scale down too .005 of a gram they are under 20.00

Other than color I don't see anything screaming cent planchet; you need the weight of the coin to continue this discussion. Get a scale from ebay that goes to 100th of a gram. Jason Cuvelier

The nickel is just discolored.
I would like to see a scale measuring down to three decimal places under $20. I've seen two places but not three.

Cent planchets are smaller and the devices like to fall over the edges more. Here is an example:
