I just opened a mint roll of 2001 D Vermont quarters. From the middle of the roll, one coin stood out, very different looking than all the others.

The reverse of this quarter is completely subdued, all the luster is like a sort of dull satin look.

This is only on the reverse, and this coin was not on the end of the roll. And again this is from a mint wrapped roll.

I know this is just something interesting to me, and I am just curious what other think about this coin.

I'd be interested in some expert opinions on this one also.

My thoughts are that it is a very early strike, I believe the luster seen on others is generally from a degree of die wear after multiple strikings. These almost satin-y coins seem to be very early strikes IMHO.
