Just a little true story here to give you all a smirk.

I was with some old friends of mine about a week ago when we got talking about our early teenage years. We hung around a video arcade that became very popular as the video game era progressed through the eighties. One of my friends fathers was listening in and mentioned that he had a friend who worked at and fixed these arcade games when need be and the story turned to all the money kids spent there. He told us that his friend amassed quite a good if not great coin collection in these years because of children being addicted to video games. They would raid their parents coin collection and drop them into PacMan or whatever. Some kids would come in with really rare coins an ask for change in quarters to play the games!! He was in coin inspection mode for most of the eighties!
I asked if it paid off for him and apparently it did because I was told that this friend died of something or other in the late 90s and the coins were left to his wife who sold them at auction and now lives very comfortably with a new house and cottage on the bay all paid for from these coins.
I asked who bought he coins and he did not know.
Story got me thinking about that whole scene thogh and what a way to collect coins!
Cool Huh?

I don't doubt that for one minute ... I remember the amount of money my friends and I used to spend in those arcades. Thankfully, I didn't have much of a collection at that time to raid though .

I lived in Michigan at that time and they were just coming out with the $.10 deposit on bottles and cans. Sure did spend a lot of time looking for 3 beer cans to turn in so I could play Tron!

Other than bank teller, what do you think would be the job today to accumulate the same kind of hoard?

how about a carnie...you know like the bill lynch shows

I would love to work for Garda or Brinks the security handlers. They are the ones counting and distributing the money to financial institutions. They also make daily trips to the Mint for new money.
The employee that sees something interesting like error notes or any other interesting items can simply switch the items he finds with regular money of equal value.
I sold a $20 dolar bill printed one side only last year for an employee.I would not have to pay $6.50 shipping for a roll of pennies.

I hate retelling this to often but, I was the guy that used to collect the coins from all those games and Jukes, for thirty some years, I did post before that I still have well over a thousand pieces in my collection that came from the routes. I still have rolls and rolls of silver, mostly VG or so king George 39 and up to 68.
I had a partner that also collected and he still does and I'm sure he had more than me , he was the main collector. To give you some idea as to how much, we cashed in 1000 each in around I think 1979 and got 10k each. That was a nice score for us.That's about 8000 quarters. I bought him out in 85 and I sold out in 99 by then revenue was up but a lot was in loons my employees kept an eye out for silver for me not much showed up by 1990 even when I counted it myself, by the time I sold out we would count 20000 a week in quarters 80000 coins and I would get maybe 2 my wife and I probably counted 50% of that and the other collectors would turn it in just not much around.
I did find buckets of foreign, slugs, tokens, pounded out nickles, professional slugs sold by the roll for $4.00 or $5.00 for ten bucks worth, these were close weight and had reeded edges.
Found and still have 30-40 proof coins or specimen taken out of Mom or Dads collection.
Had a pretty big operation couldn't take the time to really look if I spotted something as it went through the counter I would grab it. US as well if the spread was favorable, did well on US.
It was fun.
