Hi All, First let me say, I know nothing about coins except that they are usually round...and flat ;) I found an old coin in a safe I was cleaning out, I was wondering if there was a forum or some experts who would let me email a picture of it to help identify it? OK, here are some pics I took, I do have some more detailed ones that I can email if necessary? Anyone please let me know what this is and if it is worth anything? If not, sorry for taking everyones time!! Thanks in advance, Jeff Edited by BeornLS 08/07/2006 10:01 pm

It looks like a French gold coin, 20 francs from 1906 (?) - but it's either very well worn and badly scuffed, or it's some sort of copy. It's hard to be certain from the pic; does it look like it's made of gold?
There should be lettering around the edge: "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE". If there's no trace of the edge inscription, I'd be skeptical - but if it's there, it might well be the real thing; in that case, given it's condition, it would only be worth bullion value, but even that's nothing to sneeze at: 0.186 oz of gold is worth about US$120 at current gold prices.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

NO such thing as scrap gold!!! Gold is gold! Sell it as a coin as that is exactly what it is! A scrap dealer will probably try to take you to the cleaners! If nothing else, put it on ebay and let it fly!

Is that a chicken? On a French gold coin? That's too perfect.
