The obvious advantage of the ETF is that you can buy or sell at any time you please, locking in the price of the moment. I'd venture that transaction fees are lower too.

Disadvantage: can't play with your silver.

FWIW, I bought SLV at 123.

That depends on your intents for buying the silver. If you want some silver that is very liquid, by all means go for the ETF. But looking from a numismatic standpoint, I say the ASE's are great too, even if they're a couple of bucks over spot.

IF you go for the ASE box, make SURE! the mints seals are still intact--Otherwise what you will get is pick-over tubes-- By the way, I would take the ASE's--Whether for investment or not--ASE's RULE-The older the sealed case the better--If you find a 1996 case let us know--

This may be a silly question, but, what does ETF stand for?

I prefer to buy MYSELF and not pay anyone else to do what I am entirely capable of doing myself. Not to mention the fact there is NO paperwork or paper trail doing it yourself. So the investment basically DOES not exsist! And, as mentioned, you have control and physical custody of your investment.
