So... I bought a small coin collection (it was a friends Grandpa's collection.. he recently passed away. Was a true American hero, though he did not see it that way) There was a bunch of silver ($500 value) Some older notes a couple of the silver $1 are BU, and $400 or so worth of SBA, Ike, and JFK's. There were some odds and ends to boot with some wheaties, buffalo and V nickels. I searched almost everything and the outcome for varieties was a 1964 quarter no collar, 2 JFK DDO (I think... doubling on these things is difficult for a beginner... I am a Peace and Morgan guy) and My favorite of all, was a massive clashed Buffalo nickel. In front of the Indian neck jaw junction was a clearly visible UNU from UNUM. It is so cool I about fell over when I saw it. There was also a 1917 buffalo (not sure of mint yet... didnt look too close as I was looking for varieties first) in there and a 1937 with a nice break at the neck jaw junction, but nothing beat out that clash. I do not have a pic of it yet, but nabbed this image that is VERY similar to the clash I have, just a different rotation. I dont remember the date either, but will let ya'll know after I get back home. Just excited and wanted to share.

Are these clashes common on Buffalos? A clash like that on a morgan or peace would be an awesome find, but since I dont dabble in much outside of silver I have no clue. I like it a lot though. I love big clashes and big breaks. They are my favorite.

The Unum die clash is the most common one I've seen on Buffalo nickels, but the clash itself is not common at all. I maybe have a couple from going through thousands of nickels. Sometimes on the reveerse where the E Pluribus Unum is present, you can make out the Indian's jaw, but those are harder to see than the Unum clash.

Nice find! The one pictured is extremely rare- I only have seen them with "Unum" or parts of "Unum" under the jaw.

Yeah... it was the first image of a similar clash I could find. I will post some images later. Thanks for the reply. I guess there are other coins than Morgan and Peace dollars. ;)

That's a nice find. I don't have much knowledge on value of these Buffalo nickel clashes. I have one I took a picture of, let me see if I can find it and post it.

This one isn't a strong die clash, but I took a picture of this coin a few years back beacuse it had some dramatic doubling of the portrait, feathers and eye lid

Remmy, great find. I'm jealous - no not really just very happy for you. And I learned something today - I need to look closer at my Buffaloes for clashes. Didn't know that such existed, but it makes perfect sense. Keep us posted, we want pics.

Whats interesting is that JUST under the chin there appears to be additional letters. Now that would almost have to mean a double letter transfer clash one rotated and 1 not. (I think) There are some cool clashes that the camera didnt bring out too well on the nose and forehead also. Just a really neat learning coin for me. I have come to the conclusion that I have 2 other clashed buffalos with letter transfer here, but not near as heavy, but there for sure. I am starting to think the gentlemen that owned these may have been a small variety collector... he had some fun stuff... still going through some Ikes and SBA's. Very fun.
