Lol, nice note. I wonder how hard (or expensive) it would be to put together a set from say 00000100-00000500. That would be something neat to see framed...

The lowest I found in circulation was a $20 note whose number was 00000457 in near uncirculated condition. I wish I still had it but ended up selling it on ebay. My lowest currently is shown below which I purchased about two years ago.

Here is a bit of a sad story. It goes back to 1970, when I turned up in London after travelling overland from India. I was travelling with U.S.cash and travellers cheques, and cashed them all into British Pounds. The exchange rate was at the time 2.4 U.S. dollars to the Pound. with the inflation rate compounded over 40 years, a British pound in today's terms would be worth roughly U.S.$10. At the time I had about $140 to convert, and so received about 60 Pounds.

A single 20 Pound note of 1970, in today's terms would have the buying power of $200 in 2010.

40 of the Pounds were in two 20 Pound notes.

Now for the sad part. The two twenty Pound notes were brand new and consecutive numbers. The numbers were A 000006 and A000007. I knew that they would be valuable, but what could I really do when I needed the money to pay for immediate needs? They had to be spent.

What would be the numismatic value of consecutive very low number crisp flat uncirculated 20 pound notes that are 40 years old, today?

Yes neat notes sel....would be even neater if you still had them.

There are a few basic differences between U.S. notes and most foreign notes though, and one would be the number of digits in the serial number. The notes that you mention have only six digits versus eight for U.S. notes, so the law of averages prefers your chances of getting lucky with those Brit notes over U.S. notes. I have many low serial numbers from foreign countries where the digits number only five or six.
Another difference is there are no other collectors quite as crazy over low serial numbers as are Americans, so the low serial numbers are snatched up as fast as they hit actual circulation, and most times, even before, by bank tellers and other speculators. In other countries, low serial numbers may float in circulation for a very long time, if not the entire life of the note.

It also depends on what a person considers a low serial number to be. On U.S. notes, I consider low to refer to numbers under 1000. On certain foreign notes, I consider low to be under 100.

Lowest I have is a series '06 Chicago $1, G00000487*. Received in change, after buying coffee. Average circulated condition.

Next lowest is a series '69 San Fran $1, L00004056A, also received in change. It has some pretty heavy folds/creases/wear & tear, but it's not an everyday find, so I deemed it a keeper.

I also got an '03A $1 star in change about 2 weeks ago. I don't remember the district, or the complete serial, but it went something like 0007XXXX*. It was a complete rag, though, so I released it back into circ.

I've got a 1929 NBN $ 100. note from the bank of Baltimore, MD, in VF condition # F-000011-A. Being a new guy I don't think I'm allowed to post a pix, and that's ok because I wouldn't know how anyway.

You should be able to post pictures. The only thing you can't do is put up items for sale or buy item until you reach a certain number of posts. Am I right?
