Wouldn't there be chaos if the door swung open and the rooms were empty?

The vault isn't empty. It's full of gold-plated tungsten bars.

Funny with gold. They dig it up, only to re bury it again! (At Fort Knox)

Interestingly, I am from Oz, but my daughter in law has a brother in the U.S. Army, who is stationed at Fort Knox!

Yes Fort Knox is now empty. During the making of all those movies about stealing all that Gold there, The government moved it all from there to a different place. First the melted it all down, poured it all into molds, made statues for parks and plazas all over the USA. No one steals statues in parks so it is now finally safe.
However, just in case someone wants to see it again they have made many Gold painted, Lead covered bars made of Plutonium, Uranium and Radium. If stolen and melted would now explode and be traced by the radioactivity in the area.

I saw an old English black and white movie once, called The Lavender Hill Mob, starring Stanly Holoway. The gold bullion that the crims stole was melted down into paperweight models of the Eiffel Tower, and plated with lead!

Kidding aside, a lot of gold is also stored at the Federal Reserve Bank Branch in Manhattan, New York.
Even foreign countries store their gold reserves there. These vaults are extraterritorial places like embassies.

I am sure there are community members who know much more about it...

It would be funny if Geraldo Rivera was the one reporting from the scene.

What is interesting is you can't even get close to Fort Knox, but I believe the New York Federal Reserve actually has tours where you can see the gold vaults.

Yep from their website

Gold Vault Tour
Tours are given Monday through Friday, except Bank holidays, at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes. To accommodate for security screening, arrive 20 minutes before your tour.

Not sure why you think anyone is kidding here. The real truth about the location of all our Gold is at the company that advertises on TV all the time about sending them all your OLD GOLD.
Our government saw that and figured they could sell it all to them and finally pay off the national shortages. So that is now where all our Gold is located.

Ron Paul was just on Kitco's e-conference - he wants Fort Knox audited he is trying to get supporters for his bill to audit it.

Interesting that John Christian is on right now - saying prices are going up and he expects them to keep going. He is the same guy who testified saying there is no manipulation etc in the metals market.

Lose, lose with Fort Knox.

Let's find out which it is:

Real gold, all leased out to other countries.

Tungsten, owned by us/ leased out.

OUCH for the U.S.

Are we about coins and related topics or nutty conspiracy theories?

Why is this a "nutty" conspiracy theory? We are talking about a man who is in a position to know what is going on, making a reasonable request that the Congress and Federal Reserve are fighting tooth and nail. It is about time someone holds the Fed and Treaury's feet to the fire.Anyway, this is coin related if you want your coins to retain value!
