I went to a new coin shop today. It is located right next door to where my wife has one of her businesses. She's been telling me about it, so I wanted to check it out and see if there was anything there of interest.

I met the owner, his wife, and a helper they had. All were friendly folks looking to be helpful.

As it turned out, they did have some nice coins that got my interest. I came up with 4 nice Morgans, a Peace dollar, and two Walking Liberty halves. A very nice haul, indeed. :-)

Good-Hunting-Today--:-

I paid a little more for the Morgans than I was expecting but they were so nice that I could not resist. The Peace dollar and the two halves were sold to me at spot, so I could not complain about that.

Now, this is what I really enjoy... friendly and helpful sales folks, good products, and fair prices.

Ahhh... the silver itch has been scratched for another couple of weeks.

Real sharp lookin Morgan's and that is a great looking condition Peace dollar, nice addition....

Those Peace dollars and Morgans have the same amount of silver each correct, roughly 3/4 of an oz. of silver?

Rest in Peace

0.7734, new. Easy to remember, punch it into your calculator.

Now turn it upside down.

Thanks, guys... yes, these are some real beauties and they look much better in person.

I found some info on-line today about how to photograph coins. Good info, there. Will be building a light box with frosted glass cover and a camera stand for solidly mounting my digi-cam. Hope to be taking some better pics in a couple of weeks.

Yes, they do. Both have very slightly over 0.77 ounce of pure silver in them. Of course, their is some history involved here too. I can't help but think that maybe some famous western character once had one of these Morgans and used it to buy a drink in a saloon, some ammo for his 6-gun, a meal, or maybe to make a bet on a faro table. With dates in the 1880s, it's possible.

The Peace dollar was not something that I went looking for. It just turned up in a tray that was filled with other coins. In fact, it was the same tray that held the Walking Liberty half dollars. It's in real good condition, which is what attracted my attention. While not my favorite dollar design, it looks nice enough... not that I wouldn't trade it for a Morgan dollar in similar condition, of course!

Thanks, EgCollector. My collection is small but growing. So far, it is all silver... no gold yet. Would love to have some gold but, man, those prices!

Yes, that is nice... and darn-near irresistible too!

My favorite part of a Morgan is the reverse. I love the eagle design. It is, indeed, a genuine classic work of art.

Looking at the 100+ year date on the front is pretty cool too, although some Morgans are mere pups at only 90 years of age.

I bought my first Morgan from one of the participates of this website. It was a bit worn but for the purpose of silver stacking, it worked for me. Got it in the mail. I can see why people collect them. Not just for their silver, but for there numismatic value. They are IMHO, the Cadillac of all coins. I would love to put a set of them together, if I had the money. To all the Morgan collectors, I'm truly with envy!

I have been hunting for coin shops in my area. I have a Mom and Pop shop about 13 miles away, but I see that there are a few in Erie Pa. which is about 40 miles away. I think that I'll make that trip for my birthday in July.
