Was looking through a tremendous amount of auctions and found nothing, then this in the last category I looked at. Seems that this guy has a huge penchant for shill bidding (I'm assuming anyway, look at the number of bids one guy bidder on this!) but he has no idea whats going on. Anyway, I was willing to pay a little more and I think this was a good price...just hope that 1892 turns out nice because that one matters quite a bit. However, it seems like his probable shilling backfired because people probably looked at the '94 bids' and thought they had no chance, plus he listed it at 3 AM for some reason. Anyway, I figure its not too risky because if the coins as a whole are much lower quality than pictured and polished up, I'll go to ebay for a refund.

Have to wait 4 days or so to pay for this so it should be about 8 before I receive the coins; I'll keep everyone posted on what I get.

I, like you, love those middle of the night closing items. I just "won" a gorgeous 1942 Proof Washington quarter for $76.01 that also closed @ 3am. It arrived yesterday and is a least a PF-65.. Woohooo....

And some people will claim it's not as described even when it is just to get around the No Returns, or the restocking fees that some sellers try to apply.

Sometimes those restocking fees are crazy...

I have no problem with no returns on a bullion lot, and I usually sell that way for pure bullion, but if it has a lot of numismatic value and its pretty obvious the seller tried to burn you, then I think its fine to get around it.

However, some buyers will abuse this and just try to return stuff to prove a point even if they were 100% in the wrong (like the one that gave me a negative...)

The 1892 is beautiful. Probably dipped, maybe lightly whizzed, but with the most beautiful rainbow toning I have seen in awhile. High unc details. Worth $500+ for sure

Congratulations on a successful gamble! Again!

Just for comparison sake; if the coin was in a 1892-P PCGS MS60 holder, the coin has a retail value (according to PCGS) of $485 (and $220 in XF40).

Indeed, I thought there was a possibility that I was gonna get ripped off because of what looked to be shill bidding. Maybe it wasn't, or maybe this guy was just completely clueless.

Many of these coins are rainbow toned because the albums are over 50 years old, and it appears that they haven't been messed with much. The 1893-S is VG-10, not VG-8 with some really sweet toning, and a bit of 'crust'. I'd say about $250 for that one.

I doubt the 1892 would be slabbed problem free, but its just such a high eye appeal coin problems aside that I can probably get a lot for it if I list it on ebay BIN or best offer. Hard to notice the issue unless you really look at it, too. It basically looks like it came off the press a few weeks ago in terms of detail, and then some idiot tried to buff it most likely to remove toning . Too bad, without that it would likely be worth $1500 or more.

Overall, I would value the set at $1700-$1850.
