Hello. I have a 1982 Mint set. Front of the envelope says
United States Mint Set
1982 Uncirculated Coins

The back says Coins Magazine - Numismatic News - COIN PRICES.

Can anyone tell me about this set?
Thanks!
Jordan

This is the best quality sets made for 1982. It probably is not mere coincidence as most coins in the set average well over most other sets. This is one of only two sources for gem Philly quarters and choice specimens are nearly common in this set. There are also some nice Denver dimes and nickels.

If you're looking for the quarters this set is superior to the P souvenir set and nearly a match for the D.

The Numis News sets were a subscription premium for ordering one of their periodicals during part of 1982. They simply came free with a subscription. This is really remarkable considering that today even a very poor set is worth more than a subscription and some of these are worth many hundreds or even thousands of dollars. This was a fairly small cost product for them to put together in quantity with a face value of $1.82 and probably no more than another dollar in associated costs yet it has paid large dividends to collectors. Many of these were probably destroyed and spent by the original owner and many more have been busted up by collectors.

I've never seen a counterfeit and doubt any exist.

They wholesale at only $10 but you can get much more for even a poor set. Nobody would sell one for less than $25 or so and sets with even a single choice or gem might bring much more.
