I recently purchased this coin on ebay. I tried searching on NGC's website and am a bit confused. Will they grade this coin as a mint error?

Are you positive that's not just tape residue? That's what it looks like to me.IMHO

That is not an error, just a coin with some sort of residue(possibly glue).

It's not glue or residue, there is metal missing from the coin in the areas that appear brown.

Could be nitric acid splash...

ie. PMD

Worth a shot though, but I dont know even if it is mint damage it woul carry a premium enough to justify submission costs...

Did he offer a return policy? That is very important on ebay.

Ok, maybe a better pic. Notice the hair area and the area around the lapel. Best I could do on pics.

Not worth sending in IMO, and to me it's PMD, based on the opinions of the others who posted here. (I know pretty close to zero when it comes to errors).

Ok, I will be the first to admit I was wrong. I really believed the coin had a lamination. Upon very close inspection with different lighting and better magnification it does appear to be something stuck to the coin.

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Does anyone think a dip in acetone would be called for? It's a nice looking coin.

Isn't it great to know we have such a large number of experts on this site? They nailed this coin right out of the box. Also nice that the guy has decided to refund your money. That's how you keep a good rating. IMO
