I normally only accept Paypal so I can print USPS label and finish packaging at home. Now some ebayers contacted me about Money order and Ijust refused. If I know more about Money orders, I may have more customers. My questions here are: What should I watch out when dealing with Money order? Should I only accept USPS money order? How do I get protected from fraud and package loss, etc? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I used to only accept MO's. Just take them to the bank and deposit them like a check. They clear alot faster than out of state checks do. There is really nothing to watch out for, except wait till it clears. Dont limit yourself to USPS MO's only as alot of other reputable companies sell them too... ex Western Union, Walmart, Bank in house... etc. In short, just treat them like a check... but they usually clear ALOT faster.

the best thing about USPS money orders.. you can walk into any PO and cash it- don't have to wait for them to clear your bank

On or Off ebay, with or without PayPal payment, use PayPal's "Merchant Services" & "Multi-Order Shipping". There's no need for a merchant account either. Just use common sense with money orders. They all have safety devices built in and I've never had a problem with them. Some people request USPS M.O. only if worried about payment delays.

I never us ebay, except for low value items. However, I do bid in postal auctions that are set up by well recognised and long established dealers, the downside is that you pay a buyer's commission, which is a bind. If my bids are successful I pay by money order, I have never used Internet banking, and I never will, and I don't use plastic money for this purpose. I haven't had a single problem in dealing in this manner in over 30 years, even if I am buying from London, and I live in Sydney, Oz. .

I would lean towards specifying USPS Money Orders only, were it me. They're easily available, and many of the other issuers have had problems with counterfeit and fraudulent MO's. Nobody does that to the USPS, at least not more than once.

Also, Canadians can buy US dollar money orders at their post office that can be cashed at US post offices. Just tell them to make sure they buy the pink one.

Thanks bobby! See I don't even sell to Canada. Now I guess I can try them with Paypal and the pink one.

Money orders are really cheques drawn on the postal service. Because they are much cheaper then bank cheques, (at least in Oz. anyway), they are what I normally use to pay for anything to be sent through the post. Never use plastic money for such purpose, which in certain circumstances, can be as expensive as bank cheques. (At least in Oz. anyway).
