So I sent some valuable items out on Tuesday, couldn't before because of the labor day weekend and such. Anyhow, it looks like the post office held one of my items for 2 days before shipping it out, and the other one doesn't have proper tracking at all. These were both sent priority mail and isn't there some recourse because its 'guaranteed' 2-3 days? Thanks.

This gets explained to me when I send that way, everytime, same worker. After the gaur. time is up and pckg. isn't there, bring your receipt down to P.O; where they do a track look-up. If it's verified not delivered,"we'll give you a refund". Now the usps website doesn't really make it sound so simple. Once verified, you are given a form to fill out, then it's reviewed. No idea how long that takes. I hope it never goes that far.

I don't remember if I e-mailed you back Shadow, but I thought you should know that the 1910 half that you sent me arrived this past Friday. Thanks again.
I know it's not one of the items you're concerned about, but I still felt the need to mention it.

Glad it has arrived, and I hope you like it.
fioti, I paid online, so I'm not sure exactly what I should do. How do I access this form online?

I am currently having issues with the US Post office. A package mailed from Texas containing a few Morgan dollars is yet to arrive in my PO Box. It was mailed priority the Friday before Labor day. Getting quite frustrating.

I know they say Priority will generally get there in two to three days, but I was not aware is was "guaranteed". I checked the USPS website and all is says is that they are usually delivered in 2-3 days on average. There is no mention anywhere about that being "guaranteed". The only thing that is guaranteed is Express or overnight mail.
So no there is no recourse, because there is no guarantee.

Always seems like USPS tracking lags a couple days behind, between whats happened and what shows up online. Doesn't update on scans like FedEx or UPS would.

Quote: Always seems like USPS tracking lags a couple days behind, It doesn't if the tracking really is tracking. Most don't understand that USPS packages with actual tracking is rare. Delivery confirmation, which is what is usually put on packages, is not tracking. It's exactly what it's called... confirmation of delivery. The only time any USPS employee is required to scan a DC barcode is at delivery. It can be scanned along the way, in which case it will show almost immediately, but such scans are not common nor required.

Now that I think about it they were probably always just delivery confirmation.

Don't they have some dumb rule where it has to be over an inch thick for delivery confirmation? At one post office, they kept having me open the package and stuff crumpled insurance forms in order to mail it.....

I use Priority/DC for just about everything, and never ran into that particular specification.

Rule is 3/4 of an inch for first class only, Priority doesn't matter. Not strictly enforced though. If it's a padded mailer it could be under, but they usually slide right through. Try to put it on an envelope though and you'll get busted. Or if it gets to the destination PO it will be postage due in the amount of the difference between what you paid and 1 lb Priority. Your customer will love that.

What on earth is this rule's purpose? So the blind postal employees can see it? I never understood it. By the way, they were bothering me with the padded envelopes. I've gotten postage due but never that much. Why would they charge up to 1 lb priority? What a rip off, lol

Quote: What on earth is this rule's purpose? So the blind postal employees can see it? No, so the carrier doesn't have to look at both sides of every single flat they deliver. I don't blame them one bit, that would take a tremendous amount of time. Quote: By the way, they were bothering me with the padded envelops. You just got a nudge of a clerk. So few of them know any of the rules that when one figures out a rule they show off. Quote: Why would they charge up to 1 lb priority? Because that's the minimum that must be paid to be allowed on a flat.

Delivery Confirmation is meant for use with the parcel/package service. First-Class Mail letters are to be no thicker than 1/4 inch while First-Class Mail large envelopes are to be no thicker than 3/4 inch with anything thicker considered to be a package. First-Class letters/large envelopes require Certified Mail if you need delivery information.

Quote: What on earth is this rule's purpose? So the blind postal employees can see it? It's so the item is NOT machine processable. That way it has to be handled by people and so the delivery confirmation gets noticed. If they were machine processed there would be a good chance it would just get mixed with the regular mail, not noticed and not scanned on delivery.
