Beautiful coin. It's true that AU58 most of times has better eye appeal than a MS60 or MS61

The issue of value is related to the market for the coin.
In Russia where ribis is from $50 might be a really good price because that is where the collectors live. But in my area I have seen similar coins sell at 80% of Krause to dealers. They have a difficult time reselling Russian coins here in North Carolina.
I would bet the reverse situation would be involved for a common US coin in Russia. No market.

While the condition of this coin is very nice, it is still a common coin here in the US where there isn't much of a market for Russian coins. On the other hand if it was graded in the mid to high MS range a collector of the series might pay a higher price. Krause lists this coin in low MS grade at $45.00. Their prices tend to be higher than what the current market is. As Swamperbob states prices will be probably be higher in your part of the world because there is more of a demand.

The dealer I work with in Raleigh would sell that coin for about $40 and might even discount it.

I think that is a real nice 50 kopek piece. Krause is practically worthless for nice certified Russian material. Just look at results on ebay for trends. I would think that piece would be in the $100 - $125 range. If you see that exact piece for $40 or even $50 you should snap up all you can....

Prices of Russian coins are actually starting to FALL instead of going up and up unlike what everyone is thinking. Of course, this generally applies to common coins, not high grade and rare coins. For the past few years, prices have been skyrocketing way too quick and it is starting to cool down.
That said, Krause prices are still too cheap compared to reality.

gxseries - I think you are correct. A softening of Russian prices is healthy and natural.
