I've seen this symbol:

Hand-Holding-Corn?

on the rev. of a coin. My first thought was FAO, but obviously wrong. Or maybe People's Republic of ....what.
Does anyone have any clue?

Thanks
Bob

It could be FAO- not all issues use the intiials. This piece is a cast- What is the other side like? Flat? It is not India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos,. The design is familiar to me, but I cannot place it exactly. It is a rice plant in a hand in a gear wheel- Agriculture and progress.... If it comes to me I will be back.

When I see a gear I think Algeria right away (or sometimes early East Germany). But I don't think that's it!

Until I retired 3 years ago I was in charge of the FAO money and medals programme at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and can say that this is definitely not an FAO coin.

He didn't say this was an FAO coin, he said he thinks he has seen the design on a coin. Has this design ever been used on an FAO coin?

I've recently been catalouging old Eastern Bloc coinage, which is why I think this symbol is fresh in my mind. It certainly has the authentic look of mid 20th century Socialist design, but it's driving me nuts that I can't place it.

And the reason is that it resembles some of the designs but doesn't match any exactly.
