A friend gave these to me and I wanted to know if anyone here knows the composition of the coins. They look to be copies of tokens. I'm hoping they are silver but I cant seem to get much info on them. The only markings I see are on the rim which is AU 1535, AN 02076, and AU 0813. My guess are that they are just serial numbers. If anyone could give me a little more info on them or what they are made out of it would be great. Thanks. Sorry for the huge cell phone pictures.

That is really impossible to determine from photos with no identifying minter marks. You should be able to figure it out by weighing them. If they are of a proper dollar size(38-40mm) then the weights should be at least 26 grams.

I agree with biokemist6. As a preliminary, and just looking at the screen, I would tender a guess that it would be silver plated copper, bronze or brass.

Weighing the 'coin' would obviously useful. Find out it's volume and therefore density would also be useful. The specific gravity of copper is 8.93, the specific gravity of silver is higher at 10.5. If my guess is right, the specific gravity would be only a tiny bit higher than that of copper.

Thanks for the advice. They seem to be the same size as a silver dollar. I weighed them today and it came in at 28.1g. A little heavier than biochemist6 said it should be about.

That is a very good weight and a bit heavier than an early silver dollar, there is a good chance that they are greater than 90% silver but you would need to perform a specific gravity test to determine fineness.
