All,

A relative in Namibia sent me the circulation strike of the new $10 Namibia coin with Sam Nujoma on it.

Link to article with a picture of the coin can be seen via the following link:

Coin went from Namibia to Germany by plane and then it was sent in the post to me in the UK.

In 1990 Namibia became a country. Previously, it was called South West Africa.

I wish they would do a bi-metal here in the States. Be a nice change.

Whilst flicking through a stamp and coin mag in smiths, I saw an article about the US and why they cannot get dollar coins into circulation. Apparently it's because the people don't want it. But then we all know it is because dollar notes have not been withdrawn. Get rid of dollar notes and made a nice bimetallic coin!

But I did not know that Namibia was not a country until 1990. You learn something new every day.

@Kena

The Namibian Commemorative coins are available at Bank of Namibia if they still have stock available.

I was in Namibia not so long ago and I managed to get one (just one, as they hardly circulate). They're big, they're nice, yet people prefer the N$10 note... Anyway, be careful with it and enjoy!

@namnumis: the Bank of Namibia doesn't really have much to offer. I spent a few hours looking to get things done there, without result. Your best bet to get one of these in Namibia is via the guy who has a coin stall next to the tourism office. But watch out, as he also sells fakes.

@namnumis: Do you know what ones that they still have available? My relatives down there are not as mobile as they used to be.

@UltraRant: - As mentioned, one can go to Bank of Namibia and ask any teller for uncirculated N$10 coins

@kena: - Will follow up on your request ... which type of coins? Any commemorative coins or only the silver ones?

The N$10 is also a commemorative and circulation coin
There is also a F.A.O 5c commemorative coin

@UltraRant

Thinking of it ... do you also collect notes?

B.o.N also have sets of notes available, same serial numbers, hopefully you did not miss those ...

Pictures not very good quality but you will get the idea

@kena: - Feedback regarding the commemorative coins

There are only very few coins in stock ...

Bank of Namibia will not allow me to buy all coins that is very low in stock ...
