Hi there,

I have no idea what this coin is. I am guessing it's chinese as it has a dragon either side? My father found it in the garden back in 1964. We have taken it to few museums and nobody seems to know anything about it or its origin.

If anybody can help, we would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Very cool!

Is it the Exact same dragon picture on the other side?

First guess is it's not Chinese or any other Asian token/coin. It looks to have no similar characteristic to the normal dragon styles that you find in Asia.

Definatly looking forward to some input from some others.

Thank you for you response.

Yes the dragon is pretty much exactly the same on the other side.

I researched different types of dragons (designs) but couldn't find anything remotely similar to the dragon on the (coin).

Do you think it could be jewellery as it has a drilled hole in it?

It's not a "coin", in the sense that no government anywhere ever issued it for use as money. It's a privately-made medal; I suspect it was made as a piece of jewellery.

It's not a Chinese dragon - those aren't depicted with wings, like this one has.

Are you near/in Wales? It could be a Welsh dragon.

The Welsh dragon traditionally has four legs + wings, I've never seen a similar dragon to this one anywhere else. Best guess would be a dog tag, probably Victorian.

Yes I live in Wales. We did think it could be a Welsh dragon but as 'andy g' said, the Welsh dragon has four legs.

Is there anywhere I could take it get identified?

Thanks.

You could try the museum of Welsh life in Cardiff.

It certainly looks to be machine made - which means that it's not all that old.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I think I will take it there, see if they can tell me anymore about it.

Machine made..... darn it. I was hoping it might strike it lucky.
