I need an opinion on the identity of this coin that belongs to my nephew. It may even be a medallion of some sort. It weighs 20 grams, and is slightly smaller than a silver dollar. Anyone have a clue?

This is a Turkish 50 lira of 1972.
As far as I know, it's a one year coin celebrating something to do with Kemal Attaturk's victory over the Ottomans in 1922. The Victory Day holiday has just passed at the end of August.

Thank you alganbagerap for such a speedy reply. My nephew wanted to know if he was rich or not.

In August 30, 1922 the Invading force consisted of the British and the Greeks has been defeated for the last time and the war in Anatolia (we refer it as "Kurtulus Savasi") was over. This is a commemorative piece minted in 1972, amongst with one of the very first Turkish commemorative coins. Your nephew is definately not rich, but the coin's market value is slightly over than 12.00$

Thank you molydeii. It seemed to be in very good shape for a coin that was being kept by a 15 year old boy. He knows he is not rich now, but he is going to keep collecting.
