What do you believe is the best denomination to look through. Bang for the buck. Nickels, dimes, quarters etc. I would guess the dollar and half dolar, then nickels. I was planning on going to the bank but was also wondering if there were any other places the you might be able to get onto better rolls. Do you know if they sell the bags right out of the coin counter at the bank before they roll them? Might be able to find stuff before it gets the once over at the rolling place. Thanks.

Right now I am looking for old coins and silver. I do not know much else than that, and I don't have any "collections" going. I figure I cna find some stuff in rolls which might fund me to buy different items later.

Searching pennies will give you more "bang for your buck" due to the fact that you get more coins per dollar than any other denomination. I still find lots of goodies in the nickels too. But in the end, it all comes down to why your doing it and what your wanting out of it.

IMO I suggest going through half dollars and then nickels and pennies. silver dimes and quarters are getting harder and harder to find now adays.

If you're looking to sell your finds for immediate profit your best bet is probably half dollars. There's still silver to be found in these and an occassional BU roll with a premium. But if you're looking for best long term bets as well as what I consider the most fun then you can't beat quarters. There are lots of rare and scarce varieties in quarters that will have substantial premiums in the future as well as high grade common date coins that can have premiums. You'll also find a few BU rolls of states issues that have or will have premiums.
Whatever denomination you decide to search be sure to buy a folder or two to keep your best of each date. This will be a great reference set to compare later finds for varieties. They're also a lot of fun to assemble and fun to own.
I mostly search quarters but alsoi pick up a few rolls of dimes and even nickels and cents once in a while. I just like to know what's out there and the best way is to look.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Halves have the best potential for short term profit IF you live in an area that's not heavily searched. I don't. Silver is scarce and roll hunters are not. You'll have to buy a few boxes from a few banks in order to tell. If halves don't pan out your best bet for silver is dimes followed by nickels - but you won't find enough to make it worth your while if you're looking for profit. Some people will pull in the occasional big score of silver, but if you get into roll hunting with the expectation of monetary profit you're likely to be disappointed. I've found a few hundred dollars worth of silver, but I'd be better off spending those hours doing some side jobs or consulting if I was trying to maximize my profit. That being said - while I'm primarily in it for the fun, I've made a few dollars with the following: 1) Buying mislabeled or off-hours ending ebay auctions and then selling them locally 2) Finding BU 2010 coins and selling them on ebay3) Buying low on craigslist (very hard near me) Some of roll hunting is luck, but the guys who do well will tell you it's all about persistence and volume.

I went to the bank today and asked for rolled half dollars. They didn't have any. He said they never have them. Can I ask the bank to order for me? Do banks still carry the big Roosevelt dollars? Could it be just that branch and I should go to a larger one?

I've ordered a box of halves at my Bank of America. A lot of people in here do that. As for the Roosevelt dollars, I think you meant Dwight D. Eisenhower dollars. I'm not sure about where to get those at face value.

Are all the Eisenhower $s worth keeping? Or just the ones with silver? I might be able to get my hands on some, the will be circulated.

I agree with the quarters and halves for the quick silver score, but I have to vote for the Lincoln's as far as "bang for the buck". Like jnesbitt82 said, more coins per dollar, and there are tons of varieties to look for!

But if you want older coins then nickels are best. they aren't valuable but it is possible to get coins all the way back to the late 30's. Yes with cents you will find the occasional wheatie, but most of those will be from the 1950's.
