I understand paypal holds payments, but do they hold gift payments? Or personal payments. I am wondering because I have noticed a lot of coin dealers doing that.
thanks

I don't have the answer but I would like to understand what you mean by 'hold payments' Paypal has never held anything I sent to someone as far as I know whether it was ebay, personal or for items rendered. But I've never heard of this before so maybe they have.?

They don't hold any payments unless you meet certain criteria on ebay. (being a new seller, having a lot of negatives, etc)

PayPal does hold money that other people have paid to you (so you can then use it to buy other stuff with those funds).

But you can request that money and they will deposit it into an account of your choosing within 3-4 days.

I do it all the time.

How about a private transaction eg I open an account and I get a payment from selling something on craigslist? Do they still hold it?

Oh, that is what he meant by hold it. I was thinking he meant hold it for something to clear or for so many days or the like. Yes, I've had them hold my money as well. You can actually avoid the fees for personal money sending if they have it in their account.

Over a certain dollar amount they hold the funds...for 21 days or until they can verify delivery or you receive postive feedback if it is an ebay transaction. Happened to me a few weeks ago when I sold some 40% halves for over $800.

Thanks for the help everyone, most of your answers concern ebay transactions. Heres what I am asking, I want to sell soemthing on a website liek this one, now if the bueyr pays me via paypal gift will there be a hold? Do holds only apply to ebay, or also personal payments? I find it hard to believe that they hold gift payments, because technically they are a "gift" and not for a service, cough cough.
Thanks
