It's certainly Indian, but with the Sanskrit lettering on one side (left [picture, 9 o'clock), it's not going to be Mughal Empire proper, but one from of the native states. The best match I've found is from the state of Baroda, like this rupee.
There is a date on it (right picture, 3 o'clock) which appears to read 1271 (I'm not 100% sure of the last two digits); which would be in the Islamic calendar; equivalent to 1856/7 AD. The type linked to above was issued 1273 to 1275 in rupee size (listed in Krause as KM.Y# 5) and in earlier years for the smaller denominations.
It would be helpful if you could include a weight and/or diameter, as the same design was also used for the half and quarter-rupee. A rupee should weigh about 11 grams.
If you're wondering which way is "up" on your coin:

Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
