In going thru a box of pennies I found a 1982d copper SMALL date. My whitman book has no slot for that coin, just a 1982 copper small date.Help! Is this possible?
Thanks

to CCF!

I guess we'll use this post. Are you sure you have a small date? I don't think any '82-D small date copper cents are known to exist.

Any pics? I assume you weighed it to determine it's copper?

You may want to go and delete your other 5 or 6 posts on this same topic and have this one moved to the Modern forum.

Way ahead of ya

Thank you for your reply. I don't know what happened as far as the additional posts since I only posted once on the Modern forum ( I thought). Where should I post this question, since I am new to this site I don't know where I should put it. Where are the other 5 or 6 posts? I want to do things correctly and not get in trouble the first post. It definitly is a small date. I examined it under magnification comparing a large date next to it. I weighed the coin and it was 31 grams. I believe that is the weight of a copper penny. I can take a picture if I can figure out to download it.
Thank you.

Everything's all good. We're in the right place!

I think most everybody just links to photobucket or some other hosting site, or you can upload directly to the post but there is a 90K size limit. There are probably other ways as well. There's a ton of info in the help section.

But, if you can take pics, then

Welcome to the forum. Never be afraid to ask questions, that is how we all have learned what we know. If I may ask, what were you looking at in the date to determine that it was a small date? The best assessment is the shape of the "2". A small date 2 will look thinner and more uniform in size throughout its length.

Check carefully. Since there are so many different 1982 Cents many people get all confused by them. Theorarictally anyway there should be no 1982D Copper Small dates. Unlike many other large and small dated coins, the 82 is rather an easy one to notice the difference.

Thank you.

Then too the weight of 31 Grams is rather on the heavy side since a Copper one should be 3.11 Grams. If the scale your using is off a bit, might account for that.
If it turns out you do have such a coin, might well be worth a lot of money. However, Whitman, Dansco, Littleton, etc. would all be real mad at you for making them change all their Albums. And the famous Red Book and all the other books on that coin.
