I've been collecting casually for years, but just recently got more into it. I decided to have a custom coin cabinet built to store my small collection. I went to a custom cabinet/furniture maker in my area and I was extremely impressed with the results. it's made of solid mahogany, has 9 drawers that are about 1.25" tall. It is line with wool felt and has brass hardware. It's not very large, but perfect for me. Here are some pics.

Beautiful! I love it. If I could ask, what was the cost of having it made?

I have no problem telling anybody here what I paid, but would rather not post it publically. I tried to send you an email, but it said I didn't have access to the email system or something like that.

You have to have 50 posts (quality?) to use the e-mail feature.

Beautiful! FYI, fresh cut mahogany wood can cause your silver coins to tone quite quickly. Make sure they are stored correctly if you want them to stay "white".

In my research, I read that mahogany is the best wood to use for coin cabinets as it as very little oil. Would putting them into plastic air tight holders do the trick?

Yeah, I would suggest placing any coins you don't want to tone in airtights.

David, I was going to tell you early when I commented that if you want to quote people, you can use the [quote] tags instead of the "" around the quote. I edited your posts to add the tags.

You are allowed to edit posts for a small period of time. If that time has not expired, you can edit to see what I did or follow the examples below.

Really nice but as already noted be carefull of any wood products for coins. It's not just oils but all sorts of gasses released as wood ages. AND it's not just some woods but most all woods produce gasses as they dry. It too depends on the area where the wood is grown what type of gasses may have been absorbed during the trees growth.
All in all air tights should stop any problems from forming.
This too would be for currency. Note that if there are any gasses being given off from the wood and the drawers are kept closed, that too will enhance any reactions.
A test you could make prior to usage of valuable coins is to take a rather cheap or inexpensive Silver Coin and leave it in one of the drawers for a Month or so prior to actual usage.
