There's something about this that gives me pause... Check this out please? http://cgi.ebay.com/1947-P-D-S-U-S-...ET_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/300456595711 target= _blank rel= nofollow 300456595711 /a QQcategoryZ525QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4012.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo=SIC&its=I&itu=UCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC&otn=12&pmod=270640789354&ps=63&clkid=5177051264394845169 I already realize the mint did not release a Proof Set in 1947. The low retail is $1250, is this a good investment?

That is not an original Mint Set, the coins were added to a Capital holder. The coins could have come from an original Mint Set but you have no way of knowing that. Also, the early Mint Sets are much more valuable in the OGP because so many sets have been broken up over the years. I would not recommend that set for investing, collecting, or anything until the seller learns how to take proper photos- the coins cannot be properly graded. There is no excuse to have pictures that small with that much glare when you are selling a $500+ item

It's the stopper in the Mint Set series, and a definite "buy and hold." I do not believe the pictured packaging is original; hence, a highly-overstated asking price. I believe the original packaging was cardboard.
This auction is worth the combined individual value of the pieces, nothing more.

Quote: That is not an original Mint Set, the coins were added to a Capital holder. Exactly ! Quote: The coins could have come from an original Mint Set I highly doubt it, especially when the seller also has 1942 through 1946 'sets' in the same holders.

Your thoughts confirmed my doubts about the Capital Holder containing an actual P & D mint set. That's exactly what I thought when I saw the offerings prior to 47. I still don't understand how he can call the 42-46 sets actual "Mint Sets".

In a way, they could be considered "Mint Sets", except these are 'privately assembled mint sets' rather than mint assembled mint sets.

Quote: until the seller learns how to take proper photos Yea pretty much... Besides, you could get MS examples individually for less than this I think.

just go by your instincts, if you doubt, stop from buying. But the image is very good. It will make you buy it.
warm wishes.

99.2 rating; I try to stay away from anything below 99.9.
