I went into work one day this summer (I work at Home Depot) and stopped to talk to one of the cashiers who usually keeps an eye out for coins for me. She said she had some coins for me that she found in a roll of quarters in her till. She brought out a 1907 Barber and a no date Standing Liberty quarter. Usually she just gives me the coins she finds, usually foreign coins, but she said she wanted to take them to a coin shop to see what they were worth. Given the condition (AG-G) I told her that what I would pay her would be more than any dealer would be willing to give her for them. In the end, I ended up buying them from her for $15 for the pair, which was probably a bit much, but they're the only coins of each design that I have in my collection. I'm surprised she found them in a roll, I never find anything that interesting in rolls.

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Perspective, guys. Overpaying by the price of lunch at McDonald's is "way too much?"

$15 didn't seem like an unreasonable amount to me. I had $15, I could afford $15, and I didn't mind paying $15, plus I really wanted the coins since I didn't have either in my collection and there was an opportunity to add them at present. Plus, the cashier made a huge profit, she paid 50 cents to get them out of her till. Also, I doubt a dealer would have considered purchasing them from her due to the condition, and if they did, they would have paid way less than what I was willing to give her for them.

SuperDave, at which Home Depot do you work?
