I was hoping Sap or anyone else might know. The guy I got it from and already took back said that he remembers it being a coin from a Island. We have researched them back to the 1400's and have found nothing.
Anybody?

I've heard of African lip money, actually carried in the mouth, but this is the closest I could find

are you sure it's not a smashed or rolled cent? if the edges on the roller were small enough it could be done but I am confused too

Flat silver. The picture is not real good but look at the writting in the piece. Looks Egypt or something like that.

Southeast Asia boat or Canoe money comes to mind. It seems to be the right size and shape but I'm not real familiar with it. Another possibility is Tiger Tongue money, which is more likely since it has the raised lumps around the edge. Both of these come from the Thailand-Laos area and date from the 16th to early 19th century. Did some searching probably Tiger Tongue. Found an image of some Tiger Tongue being sold by Littleton and it looks a lot like it.

Yes, definitely Tiger's Tongue money from the Thai area. But that's about as much info as the book has. The illustration is from a book of Thai coins, which is in Thai and my wife could only say that the Thai writing is the name of the money but it doesn't translate into English. No dates, no size, no composition given.

I found some info here http://www.coincoin.com/seXX4.htm about 1/3 of the way down the page. This was off of a google search. It has some nice pictures attached to the hyperlinks in the text.
