Just curious, can you make an assumption about the quality/grade of a coin in its original mint cello? The reason I ask is that I am looking at a couple of coins on flebay; the coins are in their original cello and of course, you cannot get a great look at the coin because of the cello. Can any assumption be made about the quality? Thanks.

I have bought many mint sets in original mint cello on ebay. They all have graded mint state. Half have been MS60-61 the other half have been MS63-64. Very few have ever been high quality MS65 or better. I feel that there are some sellers out there that are unloading better sets but for the most part these sets are cherry picked already.

I'm not sure what the question is.

Mint set coins made since 1965 are struck at higher pressure with new dies and more carefully handled. This pretty much assures almost all coins are nicely made and nicely struck but mint set coins can be scratched up. Most have marking.

To see a coin in mint cello just squeeze the edge through the plastic with your nails and the scratches on the plastic don't move with the coin.

Most sellers of mint set coins will probably remove the worst coins since these would be bad for business. But they'll also remove the finest coins since these will bring a higher price. In other words typically the coins you get wuill be better than average but there will be no gems.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
