I tried washing it, does not come off, may bring it to my next coin club, they may know, I wonder if someone tried to tone it using a potato? and yes it's very pretty to look at, the obverse has bit of a scuff on high part of cheek, and still is solidly toned. BTW I kind of though nickel as clad ? So nickel coins are not called clad? is nickel a prescious metal ?

Of course not, all of our silver coloured coins are mostly nickel.

I believe "clad quarters" refers to post-silver US quarters made with planchets punched from metal which consists of a copper core with a layer of nickel alloy bonded to both sides.

When I took the family to metal detecting hunts, some of the coins were painted different colors to represent what prizes they were to get. I see that you have tried to take it off, and it will not come off. Could it have been buried in some type of soil or something else that may have attached itself to the coin. I have dug up copper pennies that had a silvery sheen on them, strange at first, but happened.
