Thanks for any help. 26mm, obverse is silvery, reverse is more worn and yellowish.

A date on the obverse appears to read 1237 or 1337 in Arabic (on the left side of the kneeling figure). Anyone have any ideas on the identification of this coin?

I wonder if it's normal to have dates on tokens.

Found it listed on zeno.ru as an "Iranian medal" depicting Ali, founder of the Shiite Islamic sect; the design is the same except for the location of the date. 1337 in the Iranian calendar was 1958 AD.

Presumably it is indeed a "temple token" or, more properly, a pilgrim's token, given to Shiites undertaking the Hajj to Mecca.
