Besides needing to find out all of the details (description, date, grade, country, and current value)on these coins would someone please explain the most effective web-based tool that allows users to translate the foreign symbols over to American English to determine date, country of origin, and any other important verbiage for ID purposes?

Thanks

These are coins from Turkey: 10 para in nickel, struck in the name of Muhammad V (1909-1918). Year of accession is 1327AH (1909)

Bart,

For this particular coin my 'Collecting World Coins 10th edition' book starts at 1910 (AH1327/2). It shows a $5 price for a XF coin.
I could not find the 1910 coin you were referring to.

Should I use this 1910 data for grading purposes?

these would be either KM760 or KM768. But I cannot read the inscription on the obverse and I'm not that great at reading it anyway. But the year looks to be 1915, I think I see regnal year 7 on the reverse. There is a little number (arabic of course) just below the 'diamond' on the reverse. If that is what we might refer to as a V, then it is year 7 or 1915. In 1915 the legend changed and I cannot tell which you have. that legend change would make it either 760 or 768. In terms of 'value' Krause lists an XF of 760 and 768 at $4.00

It is indeed very difficult to read the regnal year on these pictures, but weavus135 is right: these are either KM#760 or KM#768. With better pictures we could give a better identification. As I wrote before: accession year is 1327AH(1909), but regnal years can range from 2 (1910) to 7 (1915) for KM#760 and KM#768 was only struck with regnal year 7 (1915) or 8 (1916)

This site may be of some help...

...but obtaining a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins would probably serve you better.

And for the record; while many Afghani coins do contain toughras, the defining feature for the majority of their 20th century coinage is a mosque:

As snowman suggested the worldcoingallery site is good for images though not comprehensive.

I'm afraid the IDing of Arabic coins comes down to experience. Dates (if AH and you learn the Arabic numbers) are easy enough to convert to western AD dates.

If you have the Krause catalogs it's a matter of going through them to find the relevant country. But that, for me, is part of the fascination of collecting.
