I believe Old Dan meant Ecuador, if memory serves me correctly? With my memory it could be Peru but...Yes, U.S. money circulates in many countries, especially poorer countries and the U.S. did ship a few million Sackies down there and the local citizens actually think that Sacagawea was designed for them and have accepted it with open arms! Unless something changes and we all know how Congress can be! The Presidential dollar law also requires that the Sacagawea MUST be produced during the Presidential Series so Sackie is NOT going anywhere. Now is the Sackie worth saving? Well I sold a set recently and now wish I had started 10 of them. Very very nice examples of Sacagawea coins are going to bring very high premiums in the future and for the coins involved a set is very attractive RIGHT NOW! The 2001 proof is running in the $70 to $90 range right now and it is NOT going to get any cheaper. Yes another set of Sacagaweas may be on my horizon!!!

Does the Government expect the Presidential dollars to circulate? I mean look at the history of the dollar coin starting from the Susan B Anthony coins. Are these being minted just to get collectors to buy them?

one thing I read is that the Federal reserve is taking about making small bank rolls to help encourage people to buy they. I would really like to see 10 dollar rolls would be a whole lot easier to save and collect. I am personal really looking forward to the new dollars. I might be one of the only ones out there but. I think they have chance to look good and with the amount of people saying they will not collect them means that maybe they will go up in value.
I also agree that the Sacs would be a good investment. mainly because you can only get them from the mint so there will not be as main set out there

I'm sure you all know that good old Uncle Sam sends goodies all over the world to help other countries with their financial situation. They keep saying it is a loan, but it never gets payed back for one reason or another and is usually forgiven and written off the books. The popularity of the coin down there can be credited to every woman down there thinking the image on the coin is one of herself. With 95% indian population I believe you can see how this could happen.

I should probably start a set. They'd be relatively easy, and could be a sleeper series in years to come.

Where will you be able to get them besides the mints and banks? I don't really think you will get them back in change.

I believe you will find that every coin dealer in the USA has a vault full of the coins, and will be happy to send you as many as you would like.

If you want to get them in change, try the post office automated stamp machines. Buy a packet of stamps for around $7, pay with a 20, and you've got 13 sackies and the occasional SBA. Of course, the majority will be 200 and 2001 sackies.

If anyone's interested I've put some Sacs up in the coins for sale area.
