don't take my opinion as a fact. it very well may be a DDO, I am not familiar with the Canadian method of minting coins and that could mean that there is no such thing as MD. I'm mainly a U.S. collector and I am talking out of experience as a U.S. collector.
i am not getting an answer as well. I posted this on another forum (hope its ok to copy it here) easier. I have 2 of those from 72. if it is double struck how is it the exact same error on 3 coins ( so far) http://www.cointalk.com/t133713/
I have a few 70's cents that look like yours in different degrees. Canadian cents from the 70's are prone to this type of doubling. Machine Doubling (MD) usually does not add any value. Wait for a expert to give their opinion. I keep them anyhow as I think it looks great.
The static opinion is that DDOs and MDOs are worthless. Although they can be very difficult to find on some years. Increasing demand for these drives up the price a little but if more people want them then the 'worthless' title will be re-evaluated. I have a run of Obverse doubling (cents) from 1964-1979.
