Hi again,

I was recently told that keeping zinc uncirculated LMCs in their original white paper wrappers over time will create black spots on the coins--not just the outer, but the inner coins as well.

Is this true? Should I be storing them a better way to preserve their uncirculated luster? He mentioned using some "coin-friendly" plastic material but didn't mention specifically what that could be. I'd appreciate member's thoughts.

I had some rolls from the mid '80's that I opened 20 years later and did not notice any more spotting then if they were from circulation. There was some toning around the edges of all the coins though.

You should store them in plastic tubes available at your coin shop or a coin show.

I've seen black spots on all my 2010 pennies, they get added at the mint (an unwelcome bonus) and aren't related to the wrapper.
