I try the small banks inside of grocery stores, Walmart, ect.. Theres a small Bank of America inside of an Albertsons that's really close to my house, so when I just want to go though $10 or less in cents I just take a quick trip. I've asked cashiers if they had any rolls but I've never had any luck (although I did get a roll of 2010D dimes from the cashiers register once!).

When I stop at my local convenience store for a soda, I usually give them nickels or dimes when I pay for my soda. I usually give them an extra .50 and ask for a single roll of pennies. Since I do it all the time, they've gotten to know me pretty well! . Since I work graveyard, there is usually nobody else besides the cashier in the store so I don't even have to be embarrassed and feel like I'm holding up the line! I've had pretty good luck searching those rolls.

There's no such thing as a bad roll. Some are just better than others. Some of my most suprising and best rolls come from mom & pop places. Folks are desperate, and sometimes (most always) just grab what's aroud and stuff a roll. Places like Circle K dont have much on hand.

I asked for rolls from Wal-mart about a month ago and they told me that corporate policy prohibits them from selling rolls of coins.

Why even ask at grocery stores? A grocery store's business is to sell groceries. On the other hand, a bank's business is to supply our financial needs - such as rolled coins. I've never had a problem at any bank I've asked at. I get them by the box - $25 for cents, $100 for nickels, $250 for dimes, and $500 for quarters and halves. Halves I typically have to request they order - but I've never been told they can't/won't do it for me. Once, and only once, I beat the Brinks truck and Wells was out of nickel boxes - so I literally went across the street to another Wells (it used to be a Wachovia) and got my box there.

Recently I bought some coins (roll of nickels) from a Lotto kiosk in a Mall. The woman was glad to get rid of any excess coins as she has to count them when cashing out at end of every shift. I had bought a lotto ticket, so bought something too ;) I'm welcome to buy excess change any time she has it whenever I drop by.
7-11 sold me two rolls of pennies the other day. I had bought something first ;)
I'm getting the habit of asking in stores if they have any excess pennies or other small change they want to get rid off so they don't have to count it all and roll it at ends of shifts, but like I said, sometimes they'll gladly sell rolls.
Another thing to consider, is often stores run out of coin and they might bless you if you just happen to have a roll or few of coins to sell them as they can't leave the store to go hunting for change.
Sometimes they'll trade their excess for coins they're short on.
We have a Giant Tiger store in town that I frequent and store policy is they don't accept rolled coins and don't sell them, but if you ask them to give your change in coins if they have enough on hand, they will.
I find small stores that you shop in often, so they know your face, are more open and forthcoming if you nicely ask. They do appreciate regular customers.
Thats about all the ideas I can think of at the moment regards stores and getting coins from them.

Most places I have asked about rolls of coin won't sell them to you because they get what they think they need from the bank. Most won't TAKE rolled coins either so they worry about shorting themselves. I got a War Nickel in change yesterday from a place I am a regular customer of so I may go and ask to look in their nickel drawer!

Something else to think about, waitresses and home food delivery drivers often get tons of coins in tips. Maybe some would love to trade them with you for paper money ;) My pockets were often heavy with coin from tips.

I've bought over a dozen BU rolls of 2010-D Shield Cents (and a BU roll of 2010-D Dimes) from grocery stores' customer service counters. Around here, people commonly ask for rolls of Quarters at the service counters, so I've never had any problem buying a single roll of coins. If you get a BU coin in change, the store may have received a box of BU rolls. Never hurts to ask... because I found this in a grocery store Nickel roll (May 24, 2009):
